The 2026-27 AHL Season Is Here: A Fan's Gear Guide

Bench Clearers AHL hockey apparel collection

The 2026-27 AHL season opened on Friday, October 2, the American Hockey League's earliest start since 2009. All 32 teams play a 72-game schedule, 1,152 games in total, and the regular season runs through Sunday, April 11. Then the Calder Cup playoffs start.

That's a lot of hockey to dress for. Here's how to rep your AHL team all season, from opening weekend through the spring.

Why AHL Fans Are a Different Breed

Being an AHL fan means you're loyal to two teams: your club and the NHL parent club whose prospects come through your building. You get to watch players before everyone else knows their names, often in a smaller arena and at a fraction of the price of an NHL ticket.

AHL fans also don't have many apparel choices. Big retailers stock the NHL and stop there. That's why we built a full AHL collection: team designs in the cuts fans actually wear, not just a logo tee.

New to the league or want to know which NHL team your club feeds? Our AHL Field Guide breaks down every affiliate. For how the league got here, read AHL History: How the American Hockey League Became Hockey's Proving Ground.

Your AHL Season Kit

The Tank: Opening Weekend to the Playoffs

October games in a warm concourse and April playoff games in a packed building both call for something light. Our AHL hockey tanks are 100% polyester with sublimated graphics, which means the design is dyed into the fabric. It won't crack or peel, wash after wash. Women's fans, see our AHL women's hockey tanks in a racerback cut.

The Hoodie: November Through March

This is the piece that gets the most wear. AHL hoodies come with all-over team graphics and hockey-lace drawstrings, and they're warm enough for a seat near the glass. Planning to layer a tank or tee underneath? Our Hockey Game Layering Guide shows how to build an outfit for a cold rink.

The Tee: Every Day in Between

AHL t-shirts are for game-day errands, the office on a Friday, or watching the road games at home.

The Joggers: Bus-League Comfort

Long road trips to away games, or three periods in a stiff seat? AHL jogger pants have an elastic waist with a drawstring, side pockets, and cuffs that match your team.

Four Ways to Get More Out of the AHL Season

  1. Go to opening weekend, or the next home game. AHL tickets are some of the best value in pro hockey, and the seats are close to the ice.
  2. Follow your prospects. The players on your AHL roster this season may be in the NHL next season. Saying "I saw them in the A" never gets old.
  3. Make a road trip. With 32 teams across North America, there's probably another AHL city within driving distance. Wear your colors in their building.
  4. Plan for the spring. The regular season ends April 11, and the Calder Cup playoffs follow. Get your gear before the playoff rush.

Rep the Teams That Came Before

The AHL dates back to 1936, and plenty of great clubs have relocated or gone dark since then. If you'd rather rep a team from the league's past, browse our defunct and retro AHL collection.
