The Seattle Metropolitans made history in 1917 as the first American team to win the Stanley Cup, defeating the Montreal Canadiens behind Bernie Morris's incredible 14 goals in the series (including 6 in Game 4 alone). Playing in the Pacific Coast Hockey Association from 1915 to 1924, the Mets were led by Frank Foyston, Hap Holmes, and Jack Walker at the 2,500-seat Seattle Ice Arena downtown. Their legacy includes the tragic 1919 Stanley Cup Final against Montreal, cancelled when the Spanish flu epidemic struck both teams — killing Montreal's Joe Hall. The modern Seattle Kraken honor the Metropolitans by raising their 1917 Cup banner at Climate Pledge Arena.
