The Russian Penguins are one of the most fascinating stories in hockey history. Based in Moscow, Russia, they competed in the International Hockey League (IHL) during the 1993-94 season as a touring team, coached by the legendary Viktor Tikhonov and featuring future NHL stars like Nikolai Khabibulin and Sergei Brylin. Born from Pittsburgh Penguins owner Howard Baldwin's partnership with HC CSKA Moscow, they played out of the iconic CSKA Ice Palace. The 2019 documentary 'Red Penguins' immortalized this wild chapter of hockey history.
