Bench Clearers in Team Stores: From the Hockey Hall of Fame to Your Team's Arena
Walk into a hockey team store and you know what to expect: authentic jerseys behind glass, a wall of hats, a rack of tees. Look a little closer in some of hockey's best-known shops, though, and you'll find something else hanging next to the sweaters: Bench Clearers hockey tanks.
Our officially licensed tanks, hoodies and shorts have made it onto the racks at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, at NHL team stores for the New York Islanders, Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights and Chicago Blackhawks, and at minor-league team stores in the AHL and ECHL. Here's the tour, with photos taken inside every store.
From a Summer Idea to the Team Store Rack
Bench Clearers started on a hot New York summer day in 2014, with a complaint every hockey fan has had: team gear came in two options, a cheap t-shirt or a heavy sweater. We wanted the detail of a real hockey sweater in something you could wear when it's 90 degrees out. So we designed the hockey tank.
It took four years of emails, phone calls and late nights to land an NHL licensed partner and make the first tanks. That licensing is what opens the door to team stores, because team stores sell officially licensed gear. Every store below is one that put our tanks, hoodies or shorts on its own floor.
The Hockey Hall of Fame Store, Toronto
If there's a bucket-list rack in hockey retail, it's at the Hockey Hall of Fame. Fans of every team walk through the Hall in downtown Toronto, and its official store, Spirit of Hockey, carries gear for clubs across the league. Our NHL hockey tanks hung there, side by side across team colors, in the same building as the Stanley Cup.
We didn't stop at the store, either. Yes, that's a Bench Clearers Islanders tank next to the Stanley Cup.

NHL Team Stores
New York Islanders: Isles Lab at UBS Arena
The Fisherman is one of the most talked-about logos in hockey history, and Islanders fans still love it. Our Islanders Fisherman hockey tanks, with the lighthouse logo on the back neck, and matching Fisherman shorts hit the racks at the Isles Lab, the Islanders team store at UBS Arena at Belmont Park on Long Island.
UBS Arena opened in 2021 as the Islanders' new home, and the Isles Lab gives it a store with real personality: antique furniture, framed art, and racks of the looks Islanders fans actually want to wear. Our navy-and-teal Fisherman set fit right in.

The tank made the trip outside, too.

Colorado Avalanche
Burgundy and blue have been the Avalanche's colors since the franchise moved from Quebec to Denver in 1995, and they translate perfectly to a tank. At Altitude Authentics, the team store at Ball Arena, our Avs tanks went up on the racks and onto the mannequins in the middle of the floor, in both the burgundy and the blue.

Vegas Golden Knights: The Arsenal and The Armory
The Golden Knights joined the NHL in 2017 and built one of the loudest fan bases in the league almost overnight, and Bench Clearers is in both of their team stores. The Arsenal, at the team's City National Arena practice facility in Summerlin, has a castle-style entrance to match the knight theme, and it gave our VGK tanks the full treatment: a wall of them in white, red and black, gray tanks on the floor racks, and one front and center in the window display. You'll also find us at The Armory, the Golden Knights team store at T-Mobile Arena on the Strip.

Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks have been in Chicago since 1926, and their sweater is one of the most recognizable in the Original Six: red, black and white stripes with the crest front and center. Our take on it as a hockey tank keeps those stripes and has hung in the Blackhawks Store, the team's flagship shop on Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago.

AHL & ECHL Team Stores
Some of the most loyal fans in hockey sit in minor-league buildings, and their team stores have had Bench Clearers on the racks too.
Abbotsford Canucks (AHL)
The Abbotsford Canucks are the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, playing about an hour east of Vancouver in the Fraser Valley. Their green-and-blue look is one of the sharpest in the league. In Abbotsford, our green Canucks hockey hoodies got a wall and a rack of their own at the team store inside Rogers Forum (formerly the Abbotsford Centre), and they looked even better on fans in the store.

Kansas City Mavericks (ECHL)
At Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Missouri, our Kansas City Mavericks hockey tanks in orange and navy hit the racks at the Mavericks' Top Shelf Team Store. Look closely at the neck label: our ECHL tanks carry the ECHL Official Licensed Product mark.

Our Mavericks tanks aren't currently sold on BenchClearers.com, but the ECHL collection → is full of classic ECHL franchises, and our ECHL & Minor League Hockey Gear Guide → covers the rest.

Why Team Stores Carry Hockey Tanks
They fill the warm-weather gap. Hockey runs from the first games of fall to playoff games in late spring, and real fans don't stop caring in the summer. A heavy sweater isn't always practical. A tank is.
They're built like the real thing. Our tanks are 100% polyester with sublimated graphics, which means the design is dyed into the fabric instead of printed on top. The stripes, colors and crests won't crack or peel.
They give fans a second piece. Plenty of fans already own a jersey. A tank, hoodie or pair of shorts lets them rep the team at the beach, the gym or beer league, not just in the seats.
They're officially licensed. That's what earns a spot on a team store floor in the first place.

How to Spot Bench Clearers on a Team Store Rack
Next time you're in your team's store, here's what to look for:
- The silhouette. A sleeveless cut that keeps the full sweater design: the crest on the chest, the team stripes, and the trim around the neck and arms.
- The neck label. The Bench Clearers logo sits on the label inside the neck. On our ECHL tanks, it shares that label with the ECHL Official Licensed Product mark.
- The matching pieces. Tanks are the headliner, but team stores have also stocked our shorts (the Islanders Fisherman set) and hoodies (the Abbotsford Canucks wall).
