More than just Bullies

Flyers story slide 1: everyone remembers the fights, but almost nobody remembers why the Broad Street Bullies actually won. It starts with a team that got bullied. — photo 1 of 17

Flyers story slide 3: so Snider made one rule - never again. Build bigger, build meaner, build the team nobody wants to play. — photo 3 of 17

Flyers story slide 4: the leader was the kid every team passed on - Bobby Clarke, a junior star with diabetes, drafted 17th in 1969. Nobody outworked him. — photo 4 of 17

Flyers story slide 5: so they brought their goalie home - Bernie Parent returned from the WHA in 1973 and became almost impossible to beat. — photo 5 of 17

Flyers story slide 6: the leader, the goalie, the muscle - Clarke set the pace, Parent shut the door, and enforcers Dave Schultz, Bob Kelly and Andre Dupont made every shift a fight. — photo 6 of 17

Flyers story slide 7: a newspaper gave them their name in January 1973 - the Broad Street Bullies. Dave Schultz earned it with 472 penalty minutes, still the NHL record. — photo 7 of 17

Flyers story slide 8: the hitting had a purpose - they hit until opponents wore out, then Clarke, Barber and MacLeish took over. First they wore you down, then they beat you. — photo 8 of 17

Flyers story slide 9: meet coach Fred Shero, who studied the Soviets while the NHL laughed - film study, morning skates and the first full-time assistant coach. They played like a system. — photo 9 of 17

Flyers story slide 10: but one building still owned them - the 1974 Final against Boston, where the Flyers had gone 18 straight games without a win at Boston Garden. — photo 10 of 17

Flyers story slide 11: Clarke breaks the curse - Dupont ties it late and Clarke wins it in overtime; Parent shuts Boston out 1-0 in Game 6, the first 1967 expansion team to win the Stanley Cup. — photo 11 of 17

Flyers story slide 12: back-to-back champions - 1975 brought another Final, another Parent shutout and another Conn Smythe. The team that got pushed around now ruled the league. — photo 12 of 17

Flyers story slide 13: January 1976, the Soviet Red Army wanted them to chase - Shero's order was hold your shape. Flyers 4, Red Army 1, shots 49-13. Muscle and brains became Philly's identity. — photo 13 of 17

Flyers story slide 14: every Flyers team since has chased it - a 35-game unbeaten streak in 1980, Ron Hextall scoring a goal, the Legion of Doom, and the 2010 comeback from 0-3 against Boston. — photo 14 of 17

Flyers story slide 15: in the worst years the fans had Gritty - the seven-foot orange mascot unleashed in 2018 kept the arena rocking while the team rebuilt. — photo 15 of 17

Flyers story slide 16: 2026, Philly was back - first playoffs in six years against Pittsburgh, Vladar stopping all 42 shots and Cam York scoring the Game 6 overtime winner. — photo 16 of 17

Flyers story slide 17: back to Broad Street, back to hockey - from the Bullies to Gritty to Cam York, Philly hockey never stopped being loud. Rep the orange and black. — photo 17 of 17

Broad Street Bullies forever. The Philadelphia Flyers won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975 with a toughness that perfectly mirrors this city — Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, and Bernie Parent set the tone, and Philly has never softened since. Wells Fargo Center is hostile territory for visitors, and the orange and black represents a city that fights for everything it's got. Rivalries with the Penguins and Rangers run hotter than a Philly cheesesteak.

This officially licensed NHL hockey tank carries Philadelphia Flyers colors and logos on lightweight polyester, with none of the weight of a hockey sweater. It's made for the hockey fan's summer: the BBQ, the bar, the beach, a pickup game, and the couch when it's too hot for sleeves.

Officially licensed product of the NHL by Calhoun
100% Polyester
100% Machine Wash Safe
Official NHL team colors and logos
Fits like a "hockey basketball jersey"
