On February 2, 1954, Detroit faced off against a team from the prison, the Marquette Pirates -- aka Emery's Boys -- named after the prison's warden. The story goes that Jack Adams and Ted Lindsay visited the prison as a goodwill gesture, and were asked to come back later on and play a game there. It seemed unlikely at the time since the prison didn't have a rink. But some months later the prison's athletics director built a rink and invited the team back to play. And play they did. Hall of Famers like Gordie Howe, Lindsay, Terry Sawchuk, and Sid Abel took the ice against the Marquette Pirates™ inmates.

The Marquette Pirates™ didn't have particularly modern jerseys. For their famous game, they wore black sweaters with white numbers on the chest. In other games the jerseys had white stripes or said "Emery's Boys" on the chest. We've taken some creative liberties and created a modern equivalent of what the Pirates might wear today, along with our own custom Pirates logo. We hope it's a good tribute to this unique band of hockey players. The seams on the jerseys are fully embroidered including a beautifully embroidered pirate logo. Optional name and numbers are heat pressed, with a stitched name bar.

Our jerseys are modern replicas that capture the spirit of the vintage logos and styles from these teams. They are tough and durable for playing use while also high quality, comfortable jerseys for fans.

Product details for the jerseys:

- Made with lightweight, breathable mesh

- Jersey logo, striping and seams are fully embroidered

- Custom name, number and optional C or A are available. These details are heat sealed onto the jersey for durability. Name bar is sewn with letters heat sealed to the name bar.

- Made to replicate the Clippers' black road jerseys of the early 1960s as closely as possible using modern jersey production methods

- Jerseys do not come with a fight strap

- Materials sourced from Asia, jerseys imported from Canada

- This jersey is made to order by Vintage Ice Hockey
