The State of Hockey isn't a nickname — it's a birth certificate. When the North Stars left for Dallas in 1993, Minnesota lost its NHL team but never lost its hockey soul. The Wild arrived in 2000 and immediately inherited the most passionate hockey market in America. Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul is packed year-round, Minnesota high school hockey is the biggest tradition of its kind on earth, and frozen ponds across the state produce more hockey talent per capita than anywhere. This is where the game lives.
